For example, when asked to describe a picture of a bear sleeping, he
stated " I want to sleep" instead of saying "the bear is sleeping". This
apparent reliance on scripted answers could be interfering with his
general conversational abilities.
Social Interaction:Jason displayed substantial motivation to interact,
using verbalization, gesture, and occasional eye contact. He used eye
contact appropriately to interact but did so frequently, often using
only gesture, or less often, words and gesture, to initiate interactions.
He demonstrated clear facial expressions that communicated happiness and
unhappiness, but a wider range of emotion was not readily expressed.
Jason showed significant pleasure in his interactions with the examiner
during multiple aspects of testing, including singing the happy birthday
song and playing with an electronic rabbit. He was immediately
responsive to hearing his name called Jason appropriately responded to
joint attention cues and also initiated joint attention, such as
pointing to bubbles and stating "I like it." At times he resisted ending
an activity he found enjoyable, repeating the word "more".
Imagination/Creativity: Jason spontaneously engaged in pretend play,
pretending to feed a baby and playing with a family of dolls.
Stereotyped Behaviors and Restricted Interests: Jason did not
demonstrate any unusual sensory interests during testing. he displayed
some complex mannerisms such as hand flapping and bouncing when excited.
No self-injury was observed. Jason displayed some repetitive play with a
restricted range of objects, preferring toys with musical or electronic
component. However, he also became engaged to other toys, such as dolls.

Other Behaviors: Jason was active during testing, occasionally leaving
his seat to approach the examiner, but he was easily redirected and his
activity level did not disrupt the assessment. He did not display any
aggressive or disruptive behavior. No overt signs of anxiety were
