Jason's speech was spontaneous and consisted of simple phrases (e.g., "I want
to play"). He spoke primarily to make requests and to initiate play with the
examiner (e.g., "you sing!"). Frequently, rather than make a verbal request,
Jason used physical means to communicate his intentions, such as placing the
examiner's hand on a toy. He exhibited both immediate and delayed echolalia,
repeating phrases most often when he wished to continue playing. During breaks
between activities, Jason enjoyed playing with a toy with musical components.

All tests were administered according to standardized conditions. Jason's
mother confirmed that his behavioral presentation was generally consistent
with observations at home. Information obtained during this evaluation is
therefore considered to be a valid representation of Jason's current level of
functioning.
